Christopher G. Oechsli


Christopher G. Oechsli is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Atlantic Philanthropies. He has led Atlantic’s final grantmaking phase, including the development and launch of the global Atlantic Fellows program to culminate the foundation’s long history of investing in people and in their vision, opportunity and ability to realize a fairer, healthier, more inclusive world. 

Over the past 35 years, Mr. Oechsli has worked in international business, law, philanthropy, and policy development across multiple continents. He has served as Atlantic’s President and CEO since June 2011. Mr. Oechsli previously served as Counsel to U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, whom he advised on legislation and a range of domestic and international issues.

Mr. Oechsli was previously a senior staff member at The Atlantic Philanthropies and related companies for 17 years. From 2000 to 2005, he served as Atlantic’s Population Health Program Director, during which time he developed and directed work to strengthen the health systems in Vietnam, South Africa and Cuba.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Oechsli worked with private law firms in Seattle, Shanghai, San Francisco and Taipei. In 1985, he became the first US resident visiting law professor in the People’s Republic of China. A passionate advocate for empowerment across all societal groups, he has served on the boards of the Center for Democracy in the Americas, Project on Middle East Democracy and The Washington Office on Latin America.
